This
brand new show was put together for the Scarborough Spa summer season
of 2006 and has proved to be an incredible success.
The Story of Jazz and Swing
Supported
by a multimedia show including footage of original artists and over 40
colour slides the musicians tell the musical story of the development
of popular music. With the aid of a light-hearted narrative they tell
how legalised prostitution in the late 1800s in New Orleans created a
demand for live music in clubs; how band music got started in Chicago
during the Mafia-dominated 1920s; how the grand hotels established the
radio broadcasting big bands like Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington;
and how
Glenn Miller enlivened the wartime years with some of the greatest
dance music of all time; how Paul Desmond set the pop charts on fire
with a jazz record with 5 beats in the bar; how the South African
jazz pioneers reminded us in recent times that music is so important
as a voice when other freedoms are limited.

All
of this illustrated with great performances of the original music of
each era. Booking Jazz Legend will provide a unique entertainment event
to balance with any festival programme. Our shows have never
had
any negative feedback! Just lots of people wanting to know when we are
performing nearby again so that they can come again, and bring some
friends!
